Beef Patty

Estimated Time

10 minutes (for ¾ inch thickness)

Preparation

  • Ground beef (ideally 80% lean meat and 20% fat). Although it seems like a high fat content, the fat will render out while grilling, ensuring a juicy burger. Beef chuck is a good choice for the 80/20 ratio.
  • Chopped onions, horseradish sauce, herbs, minced garlic, salt, and black pepper
  • Oil
  • SONOFF BMT01 BBQ Meat Thermometer

Steps

  1. In a bowl, combine ground beef, chopped onions, horseradish sauce, herbs, and minced garlic. Season with salt and black pepper, and press the mixture together. Form the beef into patties about ¾ inch thick. Optionally, add a small piece of cheese in the center of the patty; it will melt during cooking.
  2. Refrigerate the patties for at least 30 minutes or overnight. This step helps the patties hold together during cooking.
  3. Place the probe clip on the grill and use one probe to monitor the grill temperature, aiming for 375-400°F (190-205°C).
  4. Insert the second probe into the center of the patty, and select the beef patty mode on the preset temp.
  5. Lightly oil the grill grate, then place the patties on the grill. Grill each side for 4-5 minutes, avoiding pressing down on the patties to prevent loss of juices.
  6. Wait for the BMT01 or app to alert you when the desired temperature is reached, then remove the patties and let them rest for 3-5 minutes. During this time, you can prepare other ingredients for assembling your burger, such as buns, lettuce, bacon, fried eggs, and your favorite burger sauces.
